Rapper Jon James McMurray has died after a failed plane stunt, his management team has confirmed.

The statement from his management explained that the 34-year-old died on Saturday while filming a project he had been working on for months, having also trained 'intensively' for the stunt.

According to CBC, McMurray had planned to walk along with wing of a small Cessna plane while rapping. However, he walked too far out onto the wing, sending the aircraft into a downward spiral.

The Canadian rapper then fell, and did not have enough time to open his parachute properly, meaning he died on impact.

"As Jon got further out onto the wing of the plane, it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn't correct," McMurray's management said.

"Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn't have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly."

The statement also explained that McMurray's love for extreme stunts had been a key part of his music, saying: "His passion for making music videos and performing stunts were combined, and Jon pushed music in a new direction that was unchartered territory."

Nobody else was harmed in the incident.

In a tribute to the late rapper, professional skier Wayne Bushfield - who had known McMurray since they were teenagers - said: "The sun is not as bright today as it was yesterday when it was shining on my homie's last moments. Jon James McMurray, my very best, dearest and oldest friend passed yesterday evening in a skydive accident. He was living his ultimate dream, free and full.

"May he rest In peace. I'm gonna miss him so much."

Bushfield added: "Thanks for all the lessons over the years fee. You where such a good man, you brought up everyone around you and I promise to try my best to live as free as you did. Take care of my girl Sarah up there homie. I love you. All my love to his family and people."

In another post, Bushfield explained that he and close friends had set up a GoFundMe page so that they could 'send him off properly', while also raising money 'so that his music and all his documentation of his fearless life is released in a professional way'.

RIP.
