It's absolutely smashed it in New York City and London and now it's coming Down Under.

There have been few musicals that have rocked the industry like Hamilton, the story of Alexander Hamilton who rose from very, very humble beginnings to be one of America's founding fathers and the first US treasurer.

It's absolutely smashed it on Broadway in New York City and on the West End in London, with the cast and crew enjoying sold out shows for months.

Naturally, people elsewhere in the world have been dying to see it, but can't fork out a cheeky trip to the Big Apple or London.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got to meet the cast when the show came to London.

Well, if you live in Sydney, then your prayers will have been answered as the show is coming to the New South Wales capital in March 2021 at the Lyric Theatre.

The show's writer and director Lin-Manuel Miranda said in a statement: "Thank you to everyone in Australia who's been asking for Hamilton. It's on its way and we can't wait."

To explain just how good it is, check out this review from the New York Times' Ben Brantley.

"I am loath to tell people to mortgage their houses and lease their children to acquire tickets to a hit Broadway show," he wrote.

"But Hamilton, directed by Thomas Kail and starring Mr. Miranda, might just about be worth it - at least to anyone who wants proof that the American musical is not only surviving but also evolving in ways that should allow it to thrive and transmogrify in years to come."

It's so good that you could trade your kids for a ticket - not sure how many other things out there are worth that much.

If you need a more professional review then how about all the awards it has won over the years. It's taken home 11 Tony Awards (the Oscars for the stage) including best musical, best book, best score, best actor, best actress, best direction and best choreography.

The Sydney show will be produced by Hamilton's original Broadway producer Jeffrey Sellers who revealed the reason why it's taken so long for the show to come Down Under.

"We had to get all our ducks in a row with getting our [US] domestic productions in and getting the tours off the ground, and then we had to get London going, but now we are thrilled to be announcing an Australian production," he said.

So if you're a musical buff then you'll be wanting to get tickets ahead of the March 2021 show - no doubt they'll sell out in seconds.
