Britney Spears has said her conservatorship is 'f*****g cruelty' as she granted permission to choose her own lawyer.

Speaking at a hearing, the singer said her hair vitamins and coffee had been taken away from her.

Spears told Judge Brenda Penny: "Ma'am, that's not abuse, that's just f*****g cruelty. Excuse my language but it's the truth."

She went on to tell the hearing she wants her dad Jamie Spears to be taken off her conservatorship but said co-conservator Jodi Montgomery can stay.

"My dad needs to be removed today," she said. "And I will be happy with Jodi helping me."

She went on: "I want to press charges against my father today. I want an investigation into my dad. This conservatorship has allowed my dad to ruin my life."

At yesterday's hearing Spears was told she could chose her own lawyer and has hired former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart.

Rosengart has insisted he will do all he can to removed Spears' dad from the conservatorship.

He said: "Jamie Spears should be removed as conservator because it is in [the] best interest of the conservatee.

"We will be moving promptly and aggressively for his removal. The question remains, why is he involved? He should step down voluntarily because that's what's in the best interest of the conservatee.

"My firm and I will be taking a top to bottom look at what's happened over the past decade."

The decision comes weeks after Spears made a series of shocking allegations in regards to the conservatorship.

Spears claimed she was forced to work 70 hours a week, had her diet controlled, had a birth control device inserted in her against her will, and was force fed lithium to manage her behaviour.

She went on to say her dad should be locked up.

Speaking during a hearing on 23 June, she said: "I am not happy, I can't sleep. I'm so angry, it's insane. And I'm depressed.

"My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management... they should be in jail.

"The last time I spoke to you [the judge] ... made me feel like I was dead. I am telling you again because I am not lying ... so maybe you can understand the depth and the degree and the damages... I deserve changes."

She added: "I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. I don't feel like I can live a full life."
