Hosting the event, Cardi told fans and viewers to expect to see her make a few costume changes, but few could have expected the second outfit that she turned up in.
Yes, she turned up to the event twice, for some reason.
On the first occasion, the 29-year-old musician wore a long black dress with a sequined leopard print pattern, but then for the second she wore a Schiaparelli dress off her shoulder with a really strange golden mask.
It definitely created the reaction that was looking for, with many chiming in to say that they loved the look, whilst others weren't so sure.
On Twitter, one said: "Cardi B is already a fashion icon,"
Another concurred: "Cardi girl, you look so good."
A third wrote: "I think it's Cardi B, I got scared at first but I like the dress."
However, one person who wasn't so keen on her get-up joked: "Let's be real C-3PO did it first."
Before the AMAs, Cardi had said: "When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited. I'm ready to bring my personality to the AMAs stage!"
That being said, she also tried to play down her role as host in another interview, telling Variety that the night was ultimately in honour of the performers taking to the stage.
She said: "I'm the host, but I feel like the performers and their performances, it's like their night, you know what I'm saying?
"Like when you perform, it's your night. And I'm just going to be myself. That's it.
"There are going to be certain things that I read on the teleprompter, but I'm just going to freestyle it because I don't like feeling like I'm talking like a robot. I just want to be myself."
She did say that she was particularly looking forward to some of the performances, describing it as a 'good line-up'.
Cardi was particularly excited to see stars like Olivia Rodrigo and Bad Bunny take to the stage.
In the end, the night belonged to Korean pop sensations BTS, who not only performed but also picked up the Best Artist award, along with the Favourite Pop Song gong.
Cardi herself managed to get in on the action, taking home the Favourite Hip-Hop song award for 'Up'.
All in all, a successful evening for her.
