Pamela Anderson has split from husband Jon Peters - after 12 days of marriage.

The couple tied the knot less than two weeks ago but have already announced that they are ending their relationship.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Anderson said it was a mutual decision between her and film producer Peters, 74, and asked people to respect their privacy.

The 52-year-old said: "I have been moved by the warm reception to Jon and my union."

"We would be very grateful for your support as we take some time apart to re-evaluate what we want from life and from one another. Life is a journey and love is a process.

"With that universal truth in mind, we have mutually decided to put off the formalisation of our marriage certificate and put our faith in the process. Thank you for respecting our privacy."

On 20 January, the pair - who have both been married five times before - wed during a private ceremony in Malibu after first dating over 30 years ago.

Peters is a hairdresser turned film producer - he worked on 2018's A Star Is Born, which featured Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. It went on to win Best Original Song at the Oscars. He also co-produced the Tim Burton movies Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992).

Peters met Anderson in the mid-80s at the Playboy Mansion, not long after she made the move from British Columbia to Los Angeles.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2017, during a tribute to the late Hugh Hefner, Peters said: "I walked in and saw this little angel sitting at the bar. It was Pammy. She was like 19. I knew she would be a big star.

The couple has split 12 days after getting married.

"We ended up living together. Of course, Hefner loved her and saw her beauty. Pamela was a girl who with no makeup was gorgeous. She was very smart and very talented.

"I tried to talk her out of doing Playboy. I said, 'Don't do Playboy. Focus on a serious career.' She said, 'You're nuts.' She wanted to do Playboy, and she went on to do 13 covers."

Following their wedding, Anderson shared a poem about Peters with The Hollywood Reporter, which read:

Jon is the original 'bad boy' of Hollywood -
no one compares -
I love him deeply like family.
His life used to scare me.
So much for a girl like me.
Now I've seen more of life
and realise...
He's been there all along.
Never failed me -
I'm ready now
and
he's ready too -
We
understand
and respect each other -
We love each other
without conditions -
I'm a lucky woman -
Proof
God has a plan.

Well, there you go.
