Conor McGregor has confirmed that rival Floyd Mayweather is out of the negotiations for a rematch, following their superfight last summer.

The outspoken UFC two-weight champion took to Instagram to share his thoughts: "I am happy for Floyd and his recent announcement that he is out of these current fight negotiations.

"It is the reason I never seeked the rematch in the first place. I was happy for him in retirement."

He did, however, also cheekily imply that Mayweather might not be able to cope with the demands of MMA - McGregor's game.

"My game is a very unforgiving one. It is not like other games.

"I understand completely him staying retired. I will now carry on in my negotiations and see where it goes.

"Have a great retirement Junior.

"Now come here and give your old man a hug for old times sake. I'm proud of you son.

He then signed off by saying: "Yours truly, Senior."

The two went head to toe-to-toe in Las Vegas last year in the highest grossing PPV boxing match of all time. Mayweather eventually won the fight by knockout, but McGregor was widely praised for his performance.

And it didn't take long for McGregor to demand a rematch under more advantageous terms, saying that he'd be up for round two in the UFC octagon.

During a Q&A in Glasgow, McGregor said he would beat Mayweather in a rematch under either code, but that his preference would be an MMA fight. He also claimed that Mayweather had previously promised to have a rematch under mixed martial art rules.

Business Insider reports that he told the crowd: "What sickens me is that the little mother fucker is retired now. If I had another go with him, under boxing rules, I'd get that win.

"He had to change his whole approach. With those lessons I learned, with another go around, I'd get it.

"He's 50-0 and getting on, I'm not calling him out. I'll sit back. We'll see how he gets on with this round of money.

"Maybe I'll get another call. Originally he was saying an MMA bout next. That's what he said before the fight.

"He did say an MMA fight. So if he wants to, lets fucking do it. There's not a hope in hell... I'd like to see him come over to our side and have a knock. I earned their respect and put myself out there. Style over to my side and earn our respect now."
