Dana White Has His Say On Conor McGregor Being Stripped Of The Featherweight Title

Well, this is just another day in the turbulent, eventful life of Conor McGregor. He was recently made to relinquish his UFC featherweight championship and hand it over to former opponent José Aldo.

Following his victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 206, adding the lightweight title to his trophy cabinet, the Irish fighter said that he would be taking a break from fighting to prepare for the birth of his first kid. Then, last week, the UFC announced that McGregor would be waving goodbye to the featherweight belt.

Details surrounding the decision were sparse, but The Notorious and his trainer, John Kavanagh, apparently didn't agree to handing his belt over to the man who he knocked out in 13 seconds last year.

"Yeah, he (Kavanagh) doesn't know all that has gone on, I guess. Do you think I just did this? This was Conor's decision," Dana White told Yahoo Sports. "Look, I let Conor fight [Nate] Diaz and then I let him fight Diaz again.

"Then there was the whole 155-pound thing I let him do. But at the end of the day, him doing that tied up the division for a year. There's a logjam there and a lot of guys were angry.

"This was my way to fix the logjam. I wanted Aldo to fight Holloway for the belt, but he needed more time. So, I looked at it and I said, 'well, it makes sense to make Aldo the champion and then have [Max] Holloway and [Anthony] Pettis fight for the interim title, and when Jose's ready, barring any crazy injuries, the winner can fight him'."

Conor may have had the belt taken away from him, but the fact he was the first ever UFC dual champion is an achievement that he will never lose.
