Paul has been attempting to get under the skin of the undefeated 44-year-old boxing champion ahead of his bout with his brother Logan Paul, and decided that he'd make a bit of a scene by nicking off with his hat.
The stunt, ahead of the fight on June 6 in Miami, certainly seemed to rile Mayweather.
He went berserk and chased after the YouTuber, who has since been banned from attending the scrap at the Hard Rock Stadium.
That hasn't fazed Paul though. He described the whole scenario as an 'absurd moment' and said that he found it all 'hilarious'.
Talking to former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen, Paul said: "Hey, it's show business.
"I didn't think it was gonna go that viral. I thought it was gonna be like, 'This is funny, Jake Paul is an immature little kid' - which, by the way, that's what I was going for.
"I was [thinking], this is gonna be hilarious. I'm gonna be like a little kid stealing someone's hat on the playground."
When Paul stole the hat, Mayweather could be heard shouting 'I'll kill him' as the 24-year-old Paul sprinted off.
Paul later said that Mayweather's security team were laser-focussed on getting back the hat rather than beating the living daylights out of him, as you might expect.
He continued: "It was sort of sensory overload with everything that was going on,
"There was like eight guys around me, all grabbing me, some hitting me in the leg. I'm holding onto [Mayweather's] hat; I was holding onto his hat for dear life. I was like, 'No! I'm not letting go!'
"That was the main thing that they were concerned about. They were like, 'Give us the f*****g hat! Give the hat!' And I was like, 'Nooooooo!' And then finally they got the hat.
"And then, yeah, I just see this angry Floyd Mayweather. I couldn't believe it. One of his security guards had my shirt wrapped around his hand, and so I couldn't get away.
"He just comes running at me, and he's throwing punches over the security guard, and I'm literally just like, 'Oh, wow, this is crazy'."
"The funny thing about it was that none of the punches were even coming close to me, and he actually punched his own security guard in the side of the head. But, yeah, [it was an] absurd moment, hilarious."
Anyway, if you're interested in this sort of thing, Logan Paul vs Floyd Mayweather will take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 6, but no doubt you'll be able to pay for the questionable privilege via a pay-per-view as well.
