Move Over Kiss Cam, Aussie Cricket Does The 'Simba Cam' And It's Awesome

As soon as 'The Circle of Life' starts playing, parents around the stadium hoist their kids into the air.

If you've been to a sporting match, typically in America, there might be a section where stadium organisers put on some romantic music and chuck on the Kiss Cam - the roving camera that zeros in on two people to make them lock lips.

Well, that was so 2000s because the Big Bash Cricket League has introduced Australia to the 'Simba Cam'.

That iconic scene from The Lion King where Rafiki lifts Simba high into the air was replicated in real-life by dads at the Brisbane Cricket Ground aka The Gabba while 'The Circle of Life' echoed across the ground.

Not only are babies being hoisted into the air but kids looking way too old for those classic dad antics. I mean, who wouldn't want to have their face plastered on a big screen while your pop grabs you by the armpits and throws you into the sky?

Now, some Americans reading this might scoff because they've been doing it in the NBA and NBL for at least five years now.

The Atlanta Braves baseball team put up a video of their fans and even some of the players getting amongst the Simba Cam action.

The Braves got the idea to do the revolutionary stadium tactic from their shortstop, Andrelton Simmons, whose nickname is 'Simba'.

While we slag off the kiss cam for being boring or out dated, at least it still provides some awkward or funny moments from time to time.

Take this pair for example. During a break in the game the camera landed on two people presumed to be a couple.

However, the man begins to shake his head with a concerned look on his face before he mouths: "That's my mum." She then clicks on and pulls the most disgusted look you've ever seen.

The Milwaukee Bucks offical Twitter page posted the clip claiming to to be 'Awkward Kiss Cam Moment Number 324.'

Away from the awkwardness there are actually some laughs when it comes to kiss cam.

Take this Slovakia fan at the World Junior Championship. Instead of adhering to the rules and embracing his girlfriend, the bloke gave a gentle kiss to his beer before having a healthy swig.

The girl, holding her phone in the air in preparation for a Kiss Cam selfie, is dumbfounded to find herself silver medal to a plastic cup of lager.

Now the woman could just as easily not be his girlfriend but rather a friend from way back when who was dreading the possibility of being asked to kiss her mate and was then relieved when he took one for the team by kissing his drink, who knows?

Luckily, she sees the funny side of it.
