Amazon Echo Users Faced With 'Red Ring Of Death' After 'Server Is Overloaded'

After shovelling that much turkey, chocolates, and booze down your gullet, it's probably not the kind of red ring you would have expected to be suffering with on Christmas Day.

However, according to reports, the voice controlled 'virtual assistant' - known more commonly as 'Alexa' - crashed when thousands of new Amazon Echo devices were plugged in for the first time yesterday.

It seems with the sheer volume of drunk uncles shouting at the device to play Wham's 'Last Christmas' for the hundredth time, overloaded the system.

Seriously, due to the thousands of commands being received the system stopped working and many users were left disappointed with their new present when they couldn't get a response.

Rather than give the desired response, when the system crashed at about 10am, Alexa said: "Sorry, I'm having trouble understanding you right now."

On what was supposed to be the most magical time of year, thousands were left feeling very upset,

Frankie Lyons tweeted: "Arghhhh my Alexa is down!!! Come on Amazon, what's happening? Got no Xmas songs on!!!"

Another Twitter user said: "Well I guess everyone got Amazon Echo devices for Christmas since Alexa seems to be down."

A third wrote: "So, it appears that the whole of the UK is trying to connect @AmazonUK #echo devices & #Alexa is struggling to cope. I wonder how many people are getting very frustrated right now thinking how useless their new device is? Have some turkey & try again later."

And another said they feared the worse when they saw the 'red ring of death'.

Alexa uses voice commands via an Amazon Echo device and sends them to a server, which makes sense of them and sends them back to the Echo, to carry out any number of tasks, including playing music, giving reminders, or checking the weather.

Joking, one Twitter user wrote yesterday: "Mum to Dads new Amazon Echo : 'Alexa, make the fucking tea' - God I love Crimb."

Sadly, this is one thing that Alexa can't do.

However, one owner of the device shared their fairly simple solution for getting Echos to work again.

They said: "If anyone is having problems with Amazon Echo #Alexa A hard reset got mine working again"

Not everyone seems to be having the problem however, with one user saying it is maybe working a bit too well.

They wrote: "Got an echo dot for Christmas and honestly Alexa has made me so lazy lol hope I don't get fat since I'll never have to get up again."
