To the uninitiated, Twitter can be a bit of mine field. It's where memes and news stories are often born and, in many ways, it's a language in and of itself. And then, of course, you've got the specific subculture that is Irish Twitter which is a whole other ball game.

We here at LADBible understand that it can be overwhelming trying to stay on top of a platform that feels like if you blink, you'll miss something crucial. That's why we've put together this nifty guide to the best of what's occurred on Irish Twitter this week - the funniest memes, the hottest takes and the moments that just made us say WT actual F.

So grab a cuppa, sit back and catch up on all the best tweets you might have missed this week, safe in the knowledge you can regurgitate them all to your friends as though they're your original thoughts in the coming week.

LOL - This week's funniest tweets

Starting us off strong, @leebonnie2707 reminding us that sometimes the best gags are the simplest.

One of life's great tragedies lies in the simple truth that fifteen-year-olds will never understand that even when you grow up, in many ways, your quality of life will never exceed what it was on summer holidays from secondary school.

Sean Corcoran, if you're reading this it's too late.

Why this bizarre hierarchy of infants in primary schools akin to managers and directors of a corporation is just widely accepted as normal is an aspect of Irish society that is simply not discussed often enough if you ask us.

Like the Matt LeBlanc meme epidemic just past, we were spoiled for choice when it came to Matt Hancock memes to choose from but Irish journalist and i-D editor Roisin Lanigan really hit the nail on the head with this summation of his stomach churning shifting style.

Sorry to make a bad weekend worse Roisin but we've only gone and done it again here. Your tweets are just too funny to resist!

TBH - The tweets that made us go 'Hmm...'

Just when you think you can't become more incredulous at the extent to which the Catholic Church is so inexplicably intertwined with the Irish State and society, it transpires that merely months after we learned the full details of the atrocities committed at the Mothers & Baby Homes, the government are building the new National Maternity Hospital on land owned by the Church.

Naturally the reaction has been one of horror from most people including activist Ailbhe Smyth who voiced her concern and suggested that a compulsory purchase order would be the logical solution to this issue.

There's been a lot of talk about sex work in Ireland this week due to the launch of the controversial new Beyond Exploitation campaign which many are arguing takes an old fashioned, prohibitionist stance against the complex issues that face sex workers today. The topic is a minefield but if you don't know much about the subject, this tweet from @graceyswer is a good place to begin your path to understanding that sex work is a legitimate form of work whether you like it or not.

Which leads us on nicely to our next tweet, speaking of topics you might not know where to start with, this excellent video from Brigid Purcell highlights how exactly the Irish government have gotten us into the spectacular mess we more commonly refer to as the national housing crisis.

WTF - An ode to the tweet we just didn't see coming

Okay, it might be a teensy bit of a lie to say we absolutely did not see this one coming - Jedward have earned themselves a reputation for swooping in on any great viral moment and owning it in their signature Jedwardian style. All the same though, we probably would not have bet money in 2009 that in a decade's time Jedward from The X Factor would be weighing in on the UK's Secretary of State for Health & Social Care's adultery scandal to a social media audience of over 600,000 followers.

We continue to be so grateful to be alive at a time when characters like Jedward are only now reaching their true potential.
