To the uninitiated, Twitter can be a bit of mine field. It's where memes and news stories are often born and, in many ways, it's a language in and of itself. And then, of course, you've got the specific subculture that is Irish Twitter which is a whole other ball game.

We here at LADBible understand that it can be overwhelming trying to stay on top of a platform that feels like if you blink, you'll miss something crucial. That's why we've put together this nifty guide to the best of what's occurred on Irish Twitter this week - the funniest memes, the hottest takes and the moments that just made us say WT actual F.

So grab a cuppa, sit back and catch up on all the best tweets you might have missed this week, safe in the knowledge you can regurgitate them all to your friends as though they're your original thoughts in the coming week.

LOL - This week's funniest tweets

It's been a week of remarkably high temperatures for Ireland and while most are embracing the sweltering heat, others are not handling it so well...

We've never thought about this before and honestly, we were happier that way. He would have loved it, wouldn't he?

Michael Docherty had absolutely no right to come so hard for every single Twitter user like that but he did it anyway.

Michaela McCollum's recent documentary series with the BBC has clearly brought this iconic image back to the forefront of people's minds and we couldn't be more grateful.

We second this. In fact, why not go the extra mile and hold a full-on parade - if it's good enough for St. Patrick, the other, lesser known patron saint of Ireland, it's good enough for Maura.

This is absolutely the right attitude to have - reclaim your sweatiness we say.

TBH - The tweets that made us go 'Hmm...'

Never ones to miss an opportunity to court controversy, the professional trolls at The White Moose Café have been causing a ruckus over their staunch stance against the government's requirement of people to hold a vaccine passport in order to go indoors next month. This is, of course, the same café that announced they would require a doctor's note to prove you are coeliac in order to be allowed to order anything gluten-free from their menu...

This one made us go 'hmm' but also go 'aww' - Radio Nova presenter Luke O'Faolain recently took to Twitter to ask for tips on dealing with grief as he is in the throws of it for the first time in his life. The response has been nothing short of heart-warming as people responded in their droves with helpful advice and words of support. The thread serves as a wonderful resource for the thousands of people coping with grief, a unique emotion most of us have very little practice at dealing with when we're left with no choice but to quickly learn how. Maybe Twitter isn't such a bad place after all?

And this one made us go 'Ouch'. We almost feel like we need sun cream just to look at this image of poor Twitter user Seamus who was seemingly a little complacent with his sun protection during the ongoing heatwave. Stay safe out there folks!

WTF - An ode to the tweet we just didn't see coming

How is it 2021 and there are people who speak about people of colour like this still with platforms to do so? In the clip below from the Irish Independent rugby podcast, ironically titled The Left Wing, rugby pundit Neil Francis can be heard referring to the Philippines-born English professional rugby union player Marcus Smith as 'a Harlequins out-half with a David Beckham haircut and an Oompa Loompa tan'. Truly, the mind boggles.

As you would hope, Francis' comments sparked uproar on Twitter, and the wider internet, resulting in the former professional rugby player being rightfully sacked by the newspaper.
