If ever there was a good incentive to get vaccinated, this is it. RTÉ announced this week that applications to sit in the audience of the upcoming series of The Late Late Show are now open but those who successfully nab tickets to the show will need to show proof of vaccination before they're allowed entry to the TV studio.

Viewers of the show will be aware that due to COVID-19 restrictions on crowds gathering indoors, the iconic talk show has been without its signature live audience for the past series. Instead host Ryan Tubridy has spoken to guests one on one in the studio, or quite often over Zoom as travel restrictions have prevented Irish stars from nipping home for the occasional visit.

As we approach the beginning of restrictions beginning to ease it seems that RTÉ bosses are hopeful that the show will be able to return to its original format with a live studio audience when it returns this September. In previous years the audience have often played a vital role in the show's popularity as live Q&A segments around topical issues with guests have made for gripping television.

And, of course, it's not The Late Late Show if you're not hearing Tubridy utter the immortal words: 'We've got one for everyone in the audience!' about whatever brand-sponsored goodies were up for grabs that week. Audience members have been known to walk away with some pretty impressive freebies over the years - and if the prize is rubbish the week you're there, we can confirm at the very least you'll get to enjoy the generously-flowing free wine available in the foyer (you must be over 18 to apply).

The application form to be part of the studio audience asks applicants for all the basic information you would expect but it also offers a number of opportunities to increase your chances of securing tickets by revealing a bit more about yourself. One such opportunity is the question asking whether you've got an extraordinary story you might tell Ryan if you made it to the studios.

Applicants are also asked what people are talking about where they live, who their dream Late Late guests would be and who they consider to be their Irish hero. If your dream is to mark a special birthday or anniversary with a trip to the Donnybrook studios, make sure to put that on your form too as it may help your chances.
