We Have 14 South Park Movies On The Way, Starting This Year

There will be 14 new South Park films heading to screens after creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone signed a huge $900 million (£645m) deal with MTV Entertainment Studios, it has been revealed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the news broke today (5 August) when ViacomCBS released its second-quarter earnings report.

Parker and Stone have been signed up to a deal that will run through to 2027, and will include 14 new films made exclusively for streaming service Paramount+, which is owned and operated by ViacomCBS.

Beginning this year, there are due to be two movies released annually, meaning we won't have to wait around too long before we're able to get our next fix each time.

A source told the outlet that Parker and Stone think of the two first films as one big story broken into halves.

Meanwhile, the flagship South Park series has also been renewed up to season 30 - with the 25th set to air sometime in 2022.

And that's still not it for Parker and Stone, as Chris McCarthy, President of MTV Entertainment Studios, has announced the company is working with them on some new original content.

McCarthy said in a statement: "Matt and Trey are world-class creatives who brilliantly use their outrageous humor to skewer the absurdities of our culture and we are excited to expand and deepen our long relationship with them to help fuel Paramount+ and Comedy Central.

"Franchising marquee content like South Park and developing new IP with tremendous talent like Matt and Trey, is at the heart of our strategy to continue growing Paramount+."

Parker and Stone - who released hour-long South Park specials during the pandemic, produced remotely from the crew's homes - also said in a statement: "Comedy Central has been our home for 25 years and we're really happy that they've made a commitment to us for the next 75 years.

"When we came to ViacomCBS with a different way to produce the show during the pandemic, Chris (McCarthy), Nina (Diaz), Keyes (Hill-Edgar) and Tanya (Giles) were immediately supportive and enabled us to try something new that turned out to be really well received.

"We can't wait to get back to doing traditional South Park episodes, but now we can also try out new formats. It's great to have partners who will always take a chance with us."
