He said: "#LineofDuty6 We couldn't have done it without the dedication of cast, crew and supporting artistes to rigorous CoViD safety.
"Not a single day's filming lost, and 100+ colleagues finished the shoot in good health. We looked out for each other. We followed the science."
Compston has also said production for the new series had been very 'different', saying cast and crew had been in a 'Covid bubble' to film, which meant being apart from their loved ones for an extended period.

In a message shared on Twitter, he said: "Delighted we've finally wrapped season 6!
"Tip of the cap to the production team for putting the protocols in place to provide a safe working environment and to the phenomenal crew, having the discipline and determination to work within the new parameters and get us over the line."
He added: "It was a different way of filming to get used to but we were lucky to get back doing a job we love. The scripts from Jed Mercurio superb as ever and we gave it everything we had so fingers crossed."
Line of Duty series six will begin on BBC One at 9pm on Sunday 21 March, and will also be available to watch via BBC iPlayer.
