Batman actor Christian Bale is in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in upcoming flick Thor: Love and Thunder, according to reports.

MCU

According to Collider, Bale will be switching from DC to Marvel to star in the new Taika Waititi film alongside Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth.

Bale has previously starred in three Batman movies - all directed by Christopher Nolan - before handing over the character's cape and cowl to Ben Affleck.

Collider says his role in the MCU is being kept 'under wraps' as talk progress.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released by Disney on 5 November 2021 - as yet plot details are scarce, but it's rumoured that Portman's character Jane Foster will become a female version of Thor.

Director Waititi has told fans the new movie will be 'bigger, bolder and brighter' than the previous entry in the series, 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, which he also directed.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he revealed: "The next Thor film I'm doing, basically, we're sort of launching ourselves again on this adventure film, really.

"That was the thing really that I loved about doing Ragnarok, it felt like we were just putting Thor on a really cool adventure.

"There's always like new things to see and do, and this one, I think we're gonna double down a lot on that and have it bigger, bolder and brighter. There's gonna be some really crazy stuff in the film."

In an interview with WIRED, he teased: "It's going to be bigger and louder and more bombastic.

"It's only interesting to me if we're doubling down on how nuts Ragnarok was."

Waititi has said production of the new film will kick off soon, with filming due to start in the summer.

MCU

Waititi told Variety: "Well, we move down to Sydney around April, I think, maybe. And then we'll start shooting probably around August, I think."

The New Zealand-born director also spoke about the ongoing bushfires in Australia, saying: "I mean, I don't know. It's insane what's happening down there. It seems to keep getting worse, and a lot of the smoke is now moving across to New Zealand and melting our glaciers.

"I just keep reading about it every day and it seems to be getting worse.

"It's absolute chaos."
