Nothing comes easy, unfortunately

Coronation Street star Colson Smith has shared the secrets of his new gruelling workout regime that has led to him dropping a whole load of weight and getting himself into fantastic shape.

The 21-year-old has managed to drop a load of weight and is now in the shape of his life.

The actor, who plays Craig Tinker on the UK's longest running soap, shared a video of himself pumping a bit of iron in the garden on his Instagram account.

In that clip, he can be seen swinging around kettle bells above his head, picking up and slamming down a weighted ball into the floor, and performing some painful looking curls with some serious dumbbells.

Yes, it turns out that all you have to do to get in shape is to work out hard and - presumably - eat right.

Damn, that's not quite the easy fix that a lot of us are seeking, is it?

It seems as if the recent good weather has allowed Colson's workouts to take place outside once again, as he wrote: "Better weather"

Also, strangely enough, he added in a picture of an animated potato working out behind him.

Well, either that or we're all having a collective hallucination.

Colson's Corrie chums are obviously impressed with his transformation, too.

Make what you will of the potato.

Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland on the Manchester-based show, commented: "Looking absolutely mega pal, well done."

This is actually all in line with the development of Smith's character, as well.

In the show, Craig Tinker is a police officer who has decided to whip himself into better shape after finding himself out of breath while chasing criminals about.

It's unclear whether they're going to write the animated potato into the storyline, although that would be a Weatherfield first, for sure.

As well as his new regime, Colson has also admitted that a bout of food poisoning suffered on holiday in December caused him to lost a stone and a half in December.

Speaking on his podcast, entitled Sofa Cinema Club, he said: "I was in Ko Lanta [in Thailand].

"I was sat on the beach and the waiter came over and was like, 'What would you like?' And I said, 'I'll have the prawns to start please.'

"I had avoided seafood [on Ben's advice] but I was sat on the beach and I was like, 'How can you not have seafood on the beach?'

"Well, anyway. I'm not doing that again. I've lost about a stone and a half."

In case you're wondering - food poisoning is not a healthy or advisable way to lose weight. You're better off just hitting the weights and eating right.
