The dad of the little girl who starred in this year's John Lewis Christmas advert, says he is super proud of his daughter.

Graham Dailly, from Glasgow, took to Facebook to praise Ruby for her performance in what has become the TV spectacle of the year.

Congratulating her, Mr Dailly wrote: "John Lewis 2019 Christmas advert. My wee Rubstar, star of the show. So proud and happy for her."

In the advert, the young girl plays Ava, the loyal best friend of Edgar, a rather clumsy dragon.

Securing the high profile role was no easy feat. Ruby had to go through a series of auditions for the part, with her parents having to sign a non-disclosure agreement to make sure no one got wind of what producers had in store.

In August this year, her dad posted an update to his Facebook account, which said: "I've been sitting on this for a while. A wee while back Ruby went for an audition in Glasgow, got the call back for the London audition. Absolutely smashed it and now we are of on our jollies to film a very high profile advert.

Mr Dailly said he was proud of his daughter Ruby for starring in this year's John Lewis Christmas ad.

"It's all a bit hush hush in this industry with having to sign a privacy waiver etc. But what I will say is, I'm super proud of the wee rubstar and it's a massive move for her trying to break into the acting world."

The emotionally charged commercial aired for the first time today, and it has rendered children up and down the country inconsolable.

This time round, John Lewis teamed up with Waitrose to bring to you 'Excitable Edgar', a heartwarming story about a girl and her friendship with an enthusiastic little dragon.

As Ava and her family start prepping for the festive season, Edgar gets so excited that he struggles to control his instinct to breathe fire. So far, so cute.

Unfortunately, his excitement starts to cause destruction around him, leading to a melted ice rink and depleted snowman.

And it was this scene which proved to be just too much for some, as one fan confessed their child was upset because they thought the dragon had melted a character from Frozen.

Taking to Twitter, they wrote: "Absolutely love Edgar. Unfortunately my 2-year-old is distraught that Edgar melted Olaf."

A post from John Lewis's Twitter account replied: "Oh no, Emma! Sorry to hear that your little one was unhappy with Edgar, he was only trying to [help] Olaf.

"I'll have a word with Edgar; I hope he changes his ways, or Elsa he will be sent to the naughty corner!"

Well done, Ruby!
