The third instalment of killer shark franchise Deep Blue Sea has finished production and could be hitting our screens pretty soon.

Imaginatively titled Deep Blue Sea 3, the movie was recently given an R-rating by the Motion Picture Association of America, meaning the film is in the can and could be released fairly soon.

According to IMDB, the flick lands on 28 July, but this yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros.

The new movie is straight-to-streaming, meaning it will forego a cinema run and arrive straight to a streaming service, according to The Exhibitor Relations Company.

It's been more than two decades since the very first Deep Blue Sea movie, starring Samuel L Jackson, was released. Although more ridiculous than scary, the sci-fi horror became a bit of a cult classic and in 2018 it finally got a sequel - Deep Blue Sea 2.

Now it seems as though fish-fans don't have too long to wait until they can get their teeth into the third movie (sorry).

For fans unfamiliar with the original - it centres on a group of scientists who are working to discover a cure for Alzheimer's and happen to carry out their research on a bunch of sharks. However, as bad luck would have it, the sharks end up with super-sharp minds to go alongside their super-sharp teeth and cause all sorts of havoc.

The second film had a similar theme - but even worse reviews - telling the tale of a 'brilliant billionaire' who created five genetically altered bull sharks which then went to town on a bunch of scientists on an isolated research facility. Don't you hate it when that happens?

For now, we can only assume the next movie will follow a similar story-line.

There's no official synopsis at the moment, but a summary on IMBD suggests that it will follow Dr and her team who are spending summer on the island of Little Happy looking int to the impact of climate change on the sharks in the area.

But it seems as though things will become decidedly unHappy when their 'peaceful life' is disrupted by a team who arrive looking for three bull sharks.... could they be the very same bull sharks from the second movie? We'll have to wait and see, eh.

If you haven't seen the first two movies, you've got plenty of time during lockdown to catch up.
