Fans were cautious after the initial ending; however. Hall acknowledged this in an exclusive with ET in January. He said: "I certainly can appreciate why [the ending] left a majority of the viewers feeling left out in the cold or frustrated.
"He literally didn't say anything at the end. He had been talking to us the whole time and he just started at the camera and it was over. He put his sister in the ocean. What the hell was that?"
Fans took to the internet to express their concerns. One said: "the fact that Michael himself has said 'we're doing this to give the fans the ending they deserved' to me says even they know how much they messed up."

Another said: "It's still hard to get over the disappointing ending to the original series. Was hoping he would start a new life with Hannah and his son. But can't resist watching Dexter return to his true form."

Some fans showed more enthusiasm and forgiveness than others and are ready to welcome back the 'dark passenger', which is Dexter's urge to kill. "During the day on November 7th, I'll be saying tonight's the night. Welcome back Dexter - we have missed you!"

In terms of what fans can expect, John Lithgow told Deadline: "They don't take it into a different era, but it's in a different part of the world, a different part of the country, and a whole new cast of characters.
"There are all sorts of wonderful surprises and call-backs from the first few seasons."
The original 8 seasons follow serial killer Dexter Morgan battling his real life within society - and his job as a crime scene investigator - whilst harbouring his 'dark passenger' and racking up the body count in the process.
But as the seasons progressed, along with a lot more twists and turns, the show ended in widespread confusion for fans as Dexter left everything behind to live as a lumberjack after the loss of his sister.
The new season of Dexter will be available to watch on Showtime in the US on November 9th this year.
