It's a battle that would be tough to choose sides but it seems like Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has drawn a line in the sand.
Ever since Baby Yoda came onto the scene in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, people have been absolutely in love. Whether it's in the form of a meme or a little plush toy, fans can't get enough of the creature.
Similarly, when GotG Vol. 2 came out, everyone was in love with Baby Groot.

Most people would be happy to let both creatures live in peace but James Gunn reckons they should do battle.
He uploaded a picture of a Suicide Squad themed nativity scene onto Instagram and a fan asked him what he thought of Baby Yoda.
Gunn replied with: "I only know Baby Yoda as a character in memes. He looks just like a baby but Yoda so I imagine Baby Groot would tear him into pieces."
It's a tough battle to weigh up because there's so much that we don't know about Baby Yoda. We've seen it use a bit of the force but that's about it; compared to Baby Groot who we are very well versed with.

The tree-like creature can grow in size, can control plants and trees near it and regenerate. It has shown its prowess in the heat of battle in The Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films and therefore we know it would be a worthy foe.
But if Baby Yoda is anything like the Yoda we all know and love from the Star Wars franchise then it too would be a noble adversary. But if you chuck a lightsaber and a better sense of the force into the mix then surely Baby Groot wouldn't stand a chance.
While the two characters couldn't be from two more different worlds, considering they both fall under the Disney umbrella now, this battle could technically happen.

But that's like saying a fight between Deadpool and Homer Simpson could happen, just because they also fall under the same umbrella.
The one thing that Baby Groot doesn't have is an army of tens of thousands of fans who have been petitioning for Apple to make a Baby Yoda emoji. The online campaign was launched earlier this month and more than 39,000 people have chucked their name behind it.
Now all we have to do is wait for the emoji to roll out.
