Disney's Reboot Of The Mighty Ducks Will Make Them 'The Villains'

Disney's Reboot Of The Mighty Ducks Will Make Them 'The Villains'

People were absolutely stoked when it was announced Disney was rebooting The Mighty Ducks franchise. The Mickey Mouse Corp wants to inspire a new generation of viewers, but there's a twist.

We all know the story of the down and out Minnesota pee-wee hockey team that doesn't stand a chance against their well-organised competitors, yet manages to win against all the odds.

However Disney is hoping to turn that narrative on its head and make the Mighty Ducks team the villains for the reboot.

According to Variety, the synopsis goes: "The new Mighty Ducks is set in present day Minnesota, where the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team.

"After 12-year-old Evan (Good Girls' Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports."

So the team we've always cheered for is now the annoying, arrogant bullies who will stop at nothing until they clinch victory? Sounds pretty villainous to us.

We'll have to wait and see how Disney portrays the club we all know and love but it could be interesting to see them get toppled.

The original franchise was about Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez), an arrogant drink driving lawyer who has to coach a little league hockey team after he was picked up for being over the limit behind the wheel.

In classic Disney form, Bombay slowly builds the team up from a bunch of hopeless hockey players to champions.

Ever since Disney announced its own streaming platform, the company has steamed ahead with a bunch of reboots. It revealed we'll be getting a new-look Lizzie McGuire series with the original cast, however that's been put on hold until further notice.

We'll also be getting a reboot for Home Alone - which is massive news.

According to reports, child star Archie Yates - from Jojo Rabbit - will step into the fairly sizeable shoes left by Macaulay Culkin.

Catastrophe star Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper - from The Office US - will also star in the movie which is set to begin shooting early next year in Canada.

Dan Mazer, who is best-known for directing Dirty Grandpa and Sacha Baron Cohen's controversial series Who Is America?, is heading up the movie, with the script set to be written by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell.
