A trailer has just dropped for a documentary series about man's quest to find out whether his birth-father is the Zodiac Killer.

The FX Network has given viewers a quick look at what they can expect from The Most Dangerous Animal Of All.

The docuseries, based on the bizarre and extraordinary book of the same name by Gary L. Stewart and Susan Mustafa, delves into how a man researches his family history and settles on the idea that his birth-father could be the Zodiac Killer.

The serial killer was notorious during the '60s and '70s for butchering at least five people in northern California. Mystery and conspiracy continues to follow the murderer because their identity has never been revealed.

But one man reckons it could be his biological dad.

The official synopsis of the book (and the docuseries) reads: "Soon after his birthmother contacted him for the first time at the age of thirty-nine, adoptee Gary L. Stewart decided to search for his biological father.

"It was a quest that would lead him to a horrifying truth and force him to reconsider everything he thought he knew about himself and his world."

Just how Gary stumbles onto the idea that his birth-dad could be one of the most infamous serial killers in American history is anyone's guess. Looks like you'll just have to watch the series.

It's already getting some decent reviews, with Forbes' Merrill Barr writing: "Overall, The Most Dangerous Animal of All is a solid entry into the true-crime docu-series genre from a network not that accustomed to doing this kind of storytelling.

"The episodes are swift and engrossing while never overstaying their welcome. They are what they need to be and do a heck of a job succeeding where they wish to succeed.

"Those seeking a fresh true-crime story to sink their teeth into this mid-season will be hard-pressed to do much better than this one."

The serial killer sent cryptic messages to police.

While the Zodiac Killer was confirmed to have killed five people, they claimed to have murdered as many as 37.

During their killing spree, they sent cryptic messages to police which went into detail about their love for killing. Authorities were able to interpret some of the symbols but largely the messages weren't able to be cracked.

Two years ago, the Vallejo Police Department revealed they were using new techniques to hopefully extract the Zodiac Killer's DNA from the back of stamps he used.

The Most Dangerous Animal Of All will premiere on the FX network in America on March 6.
