Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson arrived to sprinkle a bit of magic on the virtual DC FanDome event to talk fans through what they can expect from his entrance into the DC Universe with forthcoming film Black Adam.

The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment - can we still call him that? - showed up with a teaser showing off some concept art from the film, as well as a look at a few other characters.

Now, because it's been a while in pre-production, there isn't actually that much to show, but the film is slated for release in late 2022, and principal filming is supposed to start at the beginning of next year.

That's if the big you-know-what hasn't delayed it any further, like it has for a lot of other productions.

So, what did we learn from the mysterious and - to be quite honest - confusing video introduced by The Rock?

Well, for those who aren't familiar with the origin of the titular Black Adam, we can learn that he was a slave 5,000 years ago in the ancient and magical civilisation of Kahndaq, where he rebelled and tried to overthrow those who had subjugated him.

It didn't go that well for him, though. He ended up in prison for millennia, but of course - he's now out and ready to fight some more.

The Rock went on to praise Black Adam's more - let's say - robust style of justice. It's not quite as straightforward as the goody-two-shoes justice of a lot of superheroes.

In fact, he's probably going to end up rubbing up against a few of those as the character arc progresses through several films.

This first film is to be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed horror remake House of Wax, as well as the absolutely iconic Goal II: Living The Dream.

At least one of those films will have stood him in decent stead for a dark superhero film, right?

The film will also see Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher.

We'll have to wait a decent while to find out anything more about all of this, but if the DC cinematic universe, and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson are both things that excite you, this is some big news.
