Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson To Host Star-Studded Coronavirus Awareness Charity Event

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is to host a star-studded event on 27 June to raise awareness of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on marginalised communities.

Global Citizen: Unite for our Future will feature performances from the likes of Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Coldplay, but also celebrities such as Hugh Jackman, Chris Rock and Charlize Theron, and figures such as Bill and Melinda Gates, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

So, the event will see panels featuring world leaders, journalists, philanthropists and the like, plus celebrity appearances from those listed above - as well as a whole load more - and musical performances.

It's going to be broadcast online and you'll be able to watch it live on LADbible's Facebook page from 7pm BST on Saturday.

The event has been organised in partnership with the European Commission, and calls for "systemic change, change that brings about justice for everyone, everywhere, regardless of where they were born or the colour of their skin."

In a statement, the co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans, said: "Global Goal: Unite for Our Future-The Concert will bring the centuries-old concept of music as a motivator for change and unity, together with science and data, to honour the problem solvers - including doctors, scientists, lab workers, essential workers and human rights advocates - who are racing to not only create the cure for Covid-19, but also to ensure that it's available for everyone who needs it,

He continued: "I'm proud to join Global Citizen and the European Commission to host the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future concert. The event aims to lift up the global community that is tackling equitable access to healthcare and other enormous injustices facing our world. This critical moment in history requires all of us - so let's join together to chart a better future, for everyone."

While the timings haven't been announced yet, there are some serious names set to feature.

As well as the big hitters that we've mentioned before, musical artists such as Jennifer Hudson, Quavo, Usher and Christine and the Queens will also feature.

Jackman, Rock and Theron will be joined by other entertainment luminaries such as Forest Whitaker, Salma Hayek Pinault, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Billy Porter, Olivia Colman and - obviously - The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment himself. Yes, The Rock.
