It's been almost three years since Baby Driver was released with fans not-so patiently waiting for a sequel ever since.

Over the past couple of years we've had various rumours and bits of info dropped but now Edgar Wright has confirmed that a script has been finished.

He's also revealed that the new flick will not be called Baby Driver 2... so there you go.

In a recent interview with Empire, Wright said: "I can say the current title is not Baby Driver 2. It's written, and we'll see this time next year whether we're actually in production."

Exciting stuff, eh?

Around this time last year, Wright confirmed a first draft script was done and dusted.

"A first draft of Baby Driver 2 exists," Wright told Empire.

Although plot details are currently under wraps, Wright also promised the sequel 'takes the story further'.

In an interview for an Empire podcast he explained: "The studio have asked me to think about writing a sequel and it is one of the ones that I might do a sequel to because I think there's somewhere more to go with it in terms of the characters.

"I sort of have an idea that if you did another [film] you would subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so he's not the apprentice anymore."

Fans got even more excited when Baby Driver himself Ansel Elgort announced that he had seen the script.

Speaking to MTV News in July last year he said: "He has shared [the script] with me. Yes, I think it's going to happen. I think there will be a [sequel].

"It has a different title, actually. You're going to have to have to ask Edgar that, though."

When asked if the movie was in pre-production, a coy Elgort replied: "Maybe."

Although we don't even have a second movie yet, speaking all the way back in 2018, Wright hinted that there could even be more films planned.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "The deal is being hammered out as we speak. So, hopefully, I'm going to at least write a second one. I've definitely got lots of ideas."

The first movie centred on a talented getaway driver - played by Elgort - who was brought dragged into a life crime. It also starred Jamie Foxx, Lily James and Jon Hamm.

The movie was a box office hit and scooped a number of awards - including a Golden Globe for best actor for Elgort.
