Emily Ratajkowski Calls Out Judd Apatow Movie This Is 40

The comments came out as part of an awkward conversation with Apatow's pal Amy Schumer at Tribeca Film Festival

The air turned cold at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this weekend as Amy Schumer faced a grilling from Emily Ratajkowski over her pal Judd Apatow's 2012 comedy This is 40.

Although Schumer doesn't star in the film, the director is something of a mentor to her, and Ratajkowski's digs certainly had the potential to stir up some awkwardness.

The reason it came up in conversation at all was because Schumer herself had recently turned 40, and Ratajkowski was quick to bring up her pal's flick and criticise it - more specifically the character of Desi, played by Megan Fox.

"So that movie is hilarious and very spot-on," Ratajkowski started during the chat Saturday, as reported by Page Six.

"I recommend everybody who has a husband or wife and kids to watch it, [but] Megan Fox is treated in it so badly."

Fox plays Desi, a boutique employee who works for Leslie Mann's character Debbie. She also makes money as an escort on the side - and is suspected of stealing from the shop because of all the nice things she seems to own.

Schumer responded to Ratajkowski's comment by asking: "Oooh, that movie is not aging well?"

"That movie is not aging well," she replied, without elaborating.

Just to really make it explicit why their previous exchange might have been awkward, Ratajkowski pushed Schumer on the film again, asking her who made it.

"It's Judd Apatow," Schumer said with a laugh. "I don't care, I'm ready to burn that bridge to the ground tonight."

Apatow has previously said that he discovered Schumer during an appearance on Howard Stern's radio show, telling Variety in 2015: "I was not that familiar with Amy Schumer's stand-up,"

"She was talking to Howard Stern, and she was so engaging. She was talking about her dad having MS and what her relationship is like with him.

He added: "It was very dark and sad, but also very sweet and hilarious and she clearly adores him. I thought, 'This is a very unique personality and I'd like to see these stories in movies.'"

Apatow went on to direct Schumer in her first cinematic starring role, Trainwreck, which was a huge hit in 2015. It was also the first film he had directed since This is 40.

For her part, Schumer also previously called Apatow a 'really good ally'.

It's hard to know whether that might be the case now, although the actor and comedian isn't likely to feel too flustered by what conspired - after all she's no strange to stirring the pot herself.

Just recently the 40-year-old suggested John Krasinski and Emily Blunt's marriage was a sham.

In a now-deleted social media post, she said: "I loved every second of @aquietplacemovie even better than the first one which blew me away. Amazing to be in a movie theatre.

"Although I've said for a long time I think Emily and John have a pretend marriage for publicity. But I still think you should see it this rainy weekend."

But after spotting the comedian's remarks, Krasinski replied in kind.

Seemingly taking it in good spirits, the 41-year-old joked: "Thank you Amy!...for blowing up our whole marriage spot."
