Viewers have been left speechless by the uncanny resemblance between Michael Sheen and his on-screen character Chris Tarrant in the show Quiz, which aired on ITV this evening. Have a look for yourself in this short clip.

Of course, it's good to resemble the character that you're supposed to be playing - particularly if that person is actually a real and recognisable TV personality - but Sheen really seems to have nailed all of the necessary Tarrant-isms.

Viewers rushed to Twitter to priase his take on the game show host:

Quiz tells the famous story of Major Charles Ingram, a contestant on the hugely popular Who Wants to Be a Millionaire TV programme, hosted by Tarrant.

Ingram became the most famous contestant on the show after he won the £1m ($1.25m) jackpot, but was discovered to have cheated his way to the jackpot by having a specially planted member of the audience who would cough to reveal the correct answer to him.

Here's the real Chris Tarrant.

Ingram was found guilty of 'procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception' after his actions on the episode in 2001.

Before taking up the role, Sheen said that he watched countless hours of taped episodes in order to really nail Tarrant's characteristics.

Sheen explained: "Watching him on the show - I always enjoyed the show and I always enjoyed him on the show - did give me a real respect for what a brilliant job he does on it.

"It's not just him presenting it, he's stage managing that thing. The way the music and lighting...

He continued: "The way Tarrant plays with that, he's really good.

"It's watching how he gets information - quite complicated information about the rules and where they're at in the game, making sure the player knows how much they'll lose if they play this...

"But they don't have to play it. And he does all of it brilliantly, without feeling like it's dragging.

"It takes real skill to do what he does, so you have to just get really familiar with what he does."

Well, it seems as if he's won the fans over.
