Hey, guess what gang? We've got our first look at Zac Efron as Fred in the new animated Scooby Doo film.

Yep, this might have passed you by, but everyone's favourite gaggle of formulaic mystery solvers are returning to screens for a brand-new 3D animated adventure.

Hell, it can't possibly be worse than the live-action efforts of a few years back, right?

Let's give it the benefit of the doubt.

They've obviously spared no expense on the casting, as Efron will don the traditional white jacket of team leader Fred Jones.

Now, in the first pictures released of the new-look Mystery Incorporated team we can finally see what we're in for.

Entitled Scoob, the new movie could hit screens around the world as early as May 2020. Alongside Efron, we'll see Will Forte as Shaggy, Gina Rodriguez as Velma, and Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman.

As well as the whole gang returning, we've also got a look at the new Mystery Machine.

That's arguably more important than anything else. The iconic VW camper hasn't changed much over time, but it is still a vital part of the team - well, definitely more so than Scrappy Doo, anyway.

Whilst most of the fans out there have been broadly positive about Efron's look as Fred, a large number of people are suggesting that something very important is missing.

His signature Ascot scarf.

One person said: "Where's his ascot.

"Maybe the whole plot of the movie will be to find it."

Another added: "Me: (This looks interesting). Also Me: (Fred has no Ascot and it's ok, Fred has no Ascot and it's ok, Fred has no Ascot and it's ok, Fred has no Ascot and it's ok, Fred has no Ascot and it's ok)."

A third offered: "I wish Fred still had his ascot but OOOH I ACTUALLY LIKE THE SCOOB RENDERS A LOT."

So, what can we learn about the film, so far?

Well, according to Fandango, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers, who released the stills the movie is something of an origin story.

It'll focus on how the gang originally met and became a crime-cracking team.

During that, the gang 'must foil a diabolical plot revolving around a ghost dog known as Cerberus, discovering Scooby's secret legacy and their own epic destiny along the way'.

Well, that sounds like it'll be interesting, for sure.

Here's hoping those pesky kids don't manage to ruin everything.
