The first trailer for Marvel's Eternals has dropped:

The film, which features a stacked cast including Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek and Gemma Chan, is set to land on 5 November.

It is directed by Chloé Zhao, who won big at this year's Oscars, bagging both Best Director and Best Picture with her film Nomadland.

The trailer introduces us to the titular group of superhuman immortal beings, who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years observing humans.

A voiceover says: "We have watched, unguided we have helped them progress and seen them accomplish wonders. Throughout the years we have never interfered - until now."

The new roster of MCU superheroes will do battle with the Deviants in the film, their evil opposite number.

The film stars Richard Madden as leader Ikaris, Salma Hayek as a gender-swapped Ajak, Angelina Jolie as warrior Thena and Kumail Nanjiani portraying Samurai-trained Kingo

Speaking about Zhao's approach to shooting the movie, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige told Variety: "What she talked about was really fighting for practical locations, for practical elements - yes, in a movie that is full of visual effects and characters with extraordinary powers, but doing as much as possible on far-flung locations. And that starts to reap benefits visually immediately.

"We cut a little sample reel together, I remember, to show [Disney higher-ups]. And it was so beautiful, and I had to keep saying, 'This is right out of a camera; there's no VFX work to this at all!'

"Because it was a beautiful sunset, with perfect waves and mist coming up from the shore on this giant cliffside - really, really impressive stuff."

Zhao has said Marvel 'took a big risk' with the film, teasing it will 'surprise' MCU devotees.

She told SiriusXM: "Well, I do think, this is so boring you are going to roll your eyes, but I think Marvel, I think this film is very - I think they took a big risk with this one.

"I think they're going to surprise you. I hope so."

Meanwhile, Salma Hayek has also told fans to expect the unexpected.

She told Variety: "It has a completely different DNA from the [other Marvel movies].

"It's shot different than all the other ones. It's in real locations and they found some crazy extra-terrestrial-looking locations."
