Footage Shows Six Waterspouts Swirling At Once In The Gulf Of Mexico

The video shows six separate vortexes start sucking up water from the sea, and comes as much of the Gulf Coast prepares for the possibilities of two tropical storms making landfall at the same time.

One of the storms is in the North Atlantic, and another is near to the Caribbean. Both have the potential to cause widespread destruction and danger to life.

So, whilst Storm Francis batters across the UK and Ireland, it's worth sparing a thought for those out there facing these tropical storms, because things could be so much worse.

Tropical Storm Marco eventually weakened to just a tropical depression, bringing heavy rain and flooding nonetheless, but Tropical Storm Laura has already killed nine people in the Caribbean and is expected to strengthen and become a hurricane before making landfall late on Wednesday or early on Thursday morning.

This incredible footage was captured by Frank LeDay, who shot the waterspouts far out at sea, He wrote: "Wow !! Ever see 6 waterspouts at once ?"

Nope, and let's hope that we never do.

!In this case, it's tough to say at this point which storm will be the strongest. The storms could potentially interact with each other and that makes this forecast (or two) even more complicated."

The local governments around the area of predicted impact are worried as well.

John Bel Edwards, the Governor of Louisiana, has asked for a federal emergency to be declared by the White House, citing the potential problems that could be caused by two storms interacting over the state at the same time.

Last week on Friday 22 August, Governor Edwards said: "This is unlike anything we have seen, with two hurricanes expected to impact our state nearly back to back.

"This may mean that people will have to shelter in place for more than 72 hours and that there may not be time to do things like restore lost power between the two storms."

Let's hope that everyone stays safe out there, and that the worst realities of the predictions made don't ever come to pass.
