The fourth Captain America film is currently in development, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman has been given the task of writing the script.

Spellman and FATWS staff writer Dalan Musson will be in charge of writing the latest Marvel film, following on from Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Captain America: Civil War.

These reports from The Hollywood Reporter are just about everything we know about the forthcoming project, as there have been no decisions announced regarding casting or talent for the film, nor any news about who will direct the movie.

The last two Captain America films were made under the watchful eyes of the Russo Brothers, who also went on to helm Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

That would surely be an appointment that would generate a load of interest in the project.

In the event that you aren't up to date with the events in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there are some spoilers beyond here.

At the end of that, there was a new Captain America within the MCU, Sam Wilson - played by Anthony Mackie.

The last time we saw the original Cap, Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, he was an old man who had travelled back in time before deciding to stay there in order to live out his life.

Rogers didn't feature at all in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but he was mentioned on a number of occasions and was obviously contextually present throughout the film.

In fact, the show dealt heavily in the legacy left by Rogers, and how Wilson rises up to become Captain America, alongside his partner Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan.

The new film could follow on from the end of Falcon and Winter Soldier.

That would certainly provide fertile ground for any forthcoming film project, especially given how the show ended.

This is just the latest project in a slew of MCU films on the go at the minute.

Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson will hit the cinemas this summer, and Taika Waititi is currently working on Thor: Love and Thunder with Chris Hemsworth.

Basically, there's plenty to come from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there's lots to be excited about if that is your sort of thing.

We'll bring you all the details as they start to emerge.
