The trailer for the French-Canadian remake of Brooklyn Nine-Nine has dropped and it looks like it's been filmed shot-by-shot, leaving fans baffled:

Escouade 99 (Squad 99 in English), which stars Mickaël Gouin, Bianca Gervais, Mylène Mackay, Widemir Normil and Guy Jodoin, will premiere on September 17.

The Quebec version of the hit series was directed by Patrick Huard and it follows 'a group of endearing and out of the ordinary detectives who fight crime at Escouade 99 in Quebec City.'

Fans have been quick to air their opinions on social media with one taking to Twitter writing: "That's not an adaptation, it's a horrible cheap copy."

Another added: "I hate that i can feel the b99-ness of Escouade 99 but i also feels so off and not right at all."

It's easy to determine exactly which characters are which (without speaking French) apart from their lack of Latino actors to portray the roles of Amy Santiago and Rosa Diaz.

This isn't only something fans have picked up on but original series star Melissa Fumero shared some thoughts on Twitter, calling them out for the predominantly white cast.

The 38-year-old initially seemed to be tweeting her excitement which soon changed to confusion.

She later added: "I've been thinking about this a lot, and it basically comes down to this... while I understand the Latina population is v small in Quebec (& how many of them are funny actors?) the Amy n Rosa roles could've gone to ANY BIPOC so it's disappointing to see that missed opportunity. Furthermore, I love actors so I do not mean to shame these actresses, it's not their fault... it's up to the decision makers.

"If the show is successful I hope the creators take that opportunity to hire more BIPOC in supporting and guest roles."

She also expressed disappointment with the way Fanny was depicted in the trailer: "Also, you guyssssss Amy is not sexy ON PURPOSE. So that bums me out too."
