Friday Night Dinner made its very welcome return to our screens last night and viewers were introduced to new four-legged character Milson.

Knocking on Jackie's door, Jim showed off his new pooch, explaining: "I just wanted you to know that I have finally come up with a name, I couldn't keep calling her Wilson.

"I have come up with a completely different name for her: Milson."

And fans are already pretty taken with the new addition to the show, with 'Milson' trending on Twitter in the UK.

One dog-loving viewer wrote: "Thank you Friday Night Dinner for giving me my daily laughter shot to boost my immune system. Perfect episode from start to finish. I already love Milson."

Another laid it on even thicker, posting: "It's been about two minutes, but I'd already die for Milson."

While a third joked: "And the Crufts 2021 best in show goes to... Milson Bell."

Fans were left a heartbroken last season when Wilson, the beloved pet of Jim, died on the show.

Thankfully, for season six he's got a new furry pal by his side to bring along when he pops in to see Jackie and the family on a Friday night.

The eagerly anticipated sixth season will be more 'extreme' according to creator and writer Robert Popper.

Speaking to LADbible, Popper said: "I think this series is a little bit more extreme.

"It's more intense, this series... A bit more exhausting to watch, which is what I wanted to do."

When asked why he thought the show had become such a cult classic, Popper was quick to praise the excellent cast.

"I think they're all brilliant actors," Popper told us, gesturing to Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal beside him.

"And it's about family, people seem to like watching things about family I guess."

Grieg immediately deflected the praise, saying: "We also do need to say as well that the writing is really, really brilliant.

"Robert Popper is very unusual; he's written 36 scripts on his own - or 37 because there was a Christmas special or Hannukah special - you know it's very, very unusual to get this far in.

"They can't believe that it's one person sitting down at a computer going 'Ooh what's funny?'"

Friday Night Dinner series six airs each Friday on Channel 4 at 10pm.
