The eagerly anticipated Friends reunion show will air on 27 May. Watch the teaser trailer below:

Posting the news on Instagram, star Jennifer Aniston wrote: "It's official! The #FriendsReunion premieres May 27th on @HBOMax - could we BE any more excited?!"

Much to the delight of fans of the sitcom, the reunion show was announced back in February last year - however, due to the pandemic filming and its subsequent release were pushed back.

Although the delay disappointed fans, Aniston has said it meant the show will be 'more fun' given the extra time they had to work on it.

Speaking to Deadline she said: "It's going to be super. You know what? This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been.

"So, I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed.

"Look, we're not going anywhere. You're never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You're stuck with us for life, guys."

Meanwhile, co-star Courteney Cox said the reunion was 'going to be great'.

Speaking on an episode of Kevin Nealon's web series titled Hiking With Kevin she said: "The exciting thing is that we're all going to get together for the first time, in a room, and actually talk about the show.

"We're going to have the best time."

She added: "It's going to be great. We really haven't all done that and actually sat there and talked about and reminisced about this incredible experience that we had."

The one-off reunion show will see stars Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing), and David Schwimmer (Ross Geller) return for the unscripted show which will celebrate the show that ended all the way back in 2004.

The cast will be joined by some famous fans of the show, including David Beckham, Justin Bieber, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon and Christina Pickles - as well as former guest stars such as Reese Witherspoon, Tom Selleck and Elliot Gould.

As you can imagine, fans are delighted with the news, with one posting: "So glad this is happening!"

Another wrote: "The Friends Reunion is everything I've ever needed in life."

While a third said: "I've been waiting for this for too f****** long! I'm already emotional! Could I BE more excited?"
