James Corden has confirmed the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Day special will be airing on BBC One at 8.30pm - just as you'll be tucking into your hundredth Celebration of the day, no doubt.

Sharing the trailer for the highly anticipated festive special, Corden wrote on Twitter: "Christmas Day. 8.30pm @BBCOne."

The Christmas episode was announced earlier this year, although it wasn't until yesterday that a trailer finally dropped, hitting us all in the festive feels.

Starting at Pam and Mick's pad, Smithy is the first to grace our screens when Gavlar answers the door before the pair start to perform a rendition of Elton John's 'Step Into Christmas'. Joined quickly by Gavin's parents - obviously.

The rest of the minute-long trailer shows Smithy's iconic blue Volvo pulling up outside Gwen's in good old Barry. Of course, Nessa makes an appearance as well as Dave Coaches and, arguably the one we were all waiting for - Uncle Bryn.

Filming for the Christmas special of the BAFTA-winning BBC sitcom started back in July, with the new episode penned by Ruth Jones and James Corden.

When it was announced, a press release from the pair read: "Over the last ten years we've talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey - where they might be today and what their lives might look like.

"And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one-hour special. We've loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.

"We're so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen."

The cast seem just as buzzed as we are for the show's return, with many sharing trailers, photos and updates on social media along the way.

Alison Steadman, who plays the Gavin's doting mum Pam, also recently gushed about reuniting with the cast in an interview with OK! magazine.

The 73-year-old said: "It was brilliant. It was so good to be back on Barry Island! I really was quite nervous about it because expectations are so high.

"I thought, 'Can I do it again? Can I get the character back properly?' But as soon as we were all back together it was just like a family reunion. At the end we were all really sad to say goodbye."

The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special will air at 8.30pm on BBC One on 25 December.
