Fans of Gavin and Stacey were delighted earlier this year when the news broke that the team were working on a new festive episode and now to get us even more excited Nessa has rocked up to Barry to switch on the Christmas lights.

Yup, co-creator and star Ruth Jones arrived in full Nessa-mode for the switch on, asking the packed-out crowd 'what's occurrin'?'.

In a clip filmed by Bro Radio, the 53-year-old can be seen making the 'cracking' audience giggle, proclaiming: "There are some lookers out here tonight. A few exes in the crowd there I can see."

The cast of the show were back in Barry, in Wales, in the summer when filming for the new episode kicked off.

Christmas decorations were put up in July to make Barry look the part, with café owner Marco Zaeraschi telling the BBC: "I could've done cartwheels on the promenade when I heard [the show was coming back].

"It's just brought a buzz back to the town. Gavin and Stacey put Barry back on the map and has done wonders for Barry Island as well.

"It will be interesting to see Christmas trees, decorations and Christmas lights in the middle of July."

It's been almost a decade since we last saw Gavin (Matthew Horne), Stacey (Joanna Page), Smithy (James Corden), Nessa and the rest of the bunch and fans are already hyped up wondering what's happened to the characters in that time.

Announcing its very welcome return, a joint statement from creators Jones and Corden read: "Over the last ten years we've talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey - where they might be today and what their lives might look like.

"And so, in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one-hour special. We've loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.

"We're so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you, BBC, for helping to make this happen."

The one-off hour long episode will air on BBC One on Christmas day.
