BEWARE: GAVIN & STACEY SPOILERS LIE AHEAD

After yesterday's shock ending to the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special, creator of the show, Ruth Jones has said that the 'room for more' episodes.

The show ended on a huge cliffhanger, when the first episode in almost a decade ended with Nessa proposing to Smithy.

The scene cuts to credits before we get a response from Smithy, but it does mean there is potentially huge scope for future episodes of the hit show, with the creator saying it's possible there will be more to come.

Speaking to The Sun, Ruth Jones said: "It is so complicated for me and James to get together to write.

"I do say never say never, as while we did make it work that was after three years of trying to find time when we could sit down and write it.

"Obviously with the way it ends, there is room for more. It's a shame we didn't have more time when we were writing so we could have written more, then have it all ready to go.

"But it was such a challenge to get that special filmed."

And maybe if they do decide to do more episodes, we'll finally find out what happened on that bloody fishing trip, seeing as we STILL haven't been given the answers we need.

The Christmas special, the first we've seen of the show since New Year's Day 2010, has been the highlight of most people's festivities, but the fact that we didn't find out what happened on Bryn and Jason's mysterious fishing trip, left fans devastated.

As all the family sat around exchanging gifts things got a bit too much for Bryn (played by Rob Brydon), who had a heavy night on the Archers, when Gwen (Melanie Walters) framed old photographs for them all.

Noticing Bryn's reaction, Mick (Larry Lamb) asks: "You alright, Bryn? You look like you've seen a ghost." Before Stacey (Joanna Page) interjects, asking Jason: "What've you got, Jase?"

Jason replies: "It's a photo of me and uncle Bryn when we went... fishing." Smithy's new - and rather puzzled - girlfriend, Sonia awkwardly quizzes: "Right, am I missing something? What fishing trip? Did something happen on a fishing trip?"

As Gwen tries to change the attention to the Queen's speech, Bryn announces: "Put down the remote... for the time has come."

He goes on: "You want to know what happened?" Well, yes, obviously.

Standing up he tells the room: "It was very dark, in every sense of the word." At this point, Jason adds: "Can I just point out that we knew nothing about camping."

With the tension building, Bryn carried on: "It was my bad. It was all my bad. You see everyone it was supposed to be... what happened was I..."

The kids then all come bounding in asking to open selection boxes and that's the end of that - I'm starting to think they're having us on.
