It seems the Fallen film series is getting a fourth instalment.

Gerard Butler, who has played as United States Secret Service agent Mike Banning in the three films, has confirmed that another film is in the works.

It's unclear what the new movie will be called, with its predecessors titled Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Butler said: "I think with everything going on, we need him [Secret Service agent Mike Banning]. He needs to come back."

He explained that the fourth film is currently in the early stages of development and they have a pretty brilliant idea to keep the franchise going.

"Yeah, I think you will be seeing another," he said. "We're toying away with another really fantastic idea that we're working on at the moment that obviously we can't say too much about.

The first film in the franchise saw Butler's character trapped inside the White House after a terrorist attack led a Korean terrorist group leader. He uses his skills and knowledge to prevent the President from being kidnapped.

He then moves to London for the sequel, and tries to stop a plot to assassinate all the world leaders planning to attend the British Prime Minister's funeral.

Sadly for Butler, his character is framed for the attempt to assassinate the President by a rogue private military company in the third film and he has to try and clear his name.

Fans of his other movie Den of Thieves, will be delighted to know that it will be getting a follow-up as well.

The 2018 American heist flick saw Butler star as Detective Nicholas 'Big Nick' O'Brien, who is hellbent on bringing down a plot to rob the Federal Reserve Bank in Downtown Los Angeles.

The movie finished on a decent hook and is set up well for a sequel.

Butler told EW: "We're working on that script at the moment, and I'm getting pages daily from [director] Christian [Gudegast].

"It's a fun ride, spreading across North America into Europe and the diamond district of Marseilles. It's very cool and has a more European vibe this time. All the fun characters, Big Nick, Donnie, and Lobbin' Bob [Jordan Bridges], will be back. And I'm really excited about it."

No release date has been given for either project but at least it'll be something to look forward to.
