After the news emerged that Gogglebox's Mary Cook has passed away, we wanted to remind fans of the hilarious friendship she shared with on-screen and real life best mate, Marina.

This clip was shared by Channel 4 back in March 2017 and sums the duo from Bristol up perfectly: the ultimate BFFs.

According to a statement from Gogglebox, Mary and Marina met at St Monica Trust retirement village over ten years ago and the pair remained best friends ever since.

After first appearing on the show in 2016, they instantly became fan favourites thanks to their top notch banter, witty comments and, let's face it, they weren't afraid of a risqué subject from now and again.

Taking to social media, many people have reflected on Mary's relationship with Marina.

One wrote: "Sad news Mary Cook of Mary & Marina on Gogglebox has died... I loved hearing their pearls of wisdom often completely off topic misinterpreted misunderstood & so funny..."

Another added: "Mary & Marina both lovely ladies & delightful to watch - rest in peace Mary - condolences to Marina too I'm sure she'll miss you so much."

Someone else commented: "Gutted - Mary and Marina were one of the cheekiest, funniest and most insightful pairing on the show."

Channel 4 and Studio Lambert - which makes the show - confirmed Mary's death in a statement issued today (Monday 23 August), issued on behalf of her family.

It said: "We are extremely saddened to share that Gogglebox star Mary Cook passed away in hospital this weekend at the age of 92 with her family by her side.

"Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to many, Mary, who worked in the hospitality trade, had been married and widowed twice."

The statement said that Cook and Wingrove 'became instant fan favourites due to their brilliantly witty and often cheeky moments', adding: "Mary will be sorely missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew.

"Our love and thoughts are with Mary's family, friends, and Marina. The family have asked for privacy at this sad time."
