Anyone who remembers ITV game show Golden Balls will remember just how wild it was - which is precisely why many fans are calling for its return.

Presented by comedian Jasper Carrott, the programme was originally broadcast in a daytime slot on ITV between June 2007 and December 2009, cramming in six action-packed seasons in its two-year run.

It provided viewers with all kinds of drama - especially in the final round, when contestants had the choice to split or steal the final pot.

After all, let's not forget one British TV's most iconic moments ever, when two players called Sarah and Stephen agreed they would split the £100,150 prize money, only for Sarah to open up her ball to reveal that she was going for a STEAL.

"When Stephen revealed the split ball, I wasn't proud," she said afterwards.

"I didn't feel happy about what I'd done but having been stabbed in the back last time I just couldn't put myself through it again."

Now, more than 10 years after the credits rolled for one last time, people are hoping to enjoy priceless moments like that all over again, pleading for ITV to bring Golden Balls back.

However, some reckon the show would benefit from a slight shake-up, suggesting it should be shown on ITV2 in the 9pm spot.

Twitter user Matt Hooper wrote: "Bring this back in the 9pm itv2 slot next summer."

It was an idea that people appear to be instantly sold on, judging from the 8,000+ likes it's racked up since being posted - along with hundreds of retweets and comments.

One person said the show was 'ripe for a reboot', while someone said the 'couldn't agree more' with the idea.

"I'd pay good money to watch this again," another wrote.

"This would be elite viewing," one person added.

Others said they were in favour of the premise of a move to ITV2 and a post-watershed time slot.

One commented: "Try and tell me this isn't just basically love island without the drama and romantic storylines."

A second added: "Golden Balls late night edition unchained."

Putting it on past the watershed suggests a Golden Balls where you can fight a fellow contestant. Imagine picking steal in the last round and the guy opposite you kicks your head in - great tv."

Many others commented to say they weren't so sold on the idea - purely because they didn't think their nerves could handle it.

One person begged: "Please can we not. This show gave me my first legitimate experience of anxiety at the tender age of 12."

Another agreed: "Couldn't handle it again. The heartbreak and anxiety this programme gave me."
