One of the stars of gritty BBC drama Happy Valley has hinted that the third series could be on the horizon.

Siobhan Finneran, who plays Clare Cartwright in the popular show, has said she and the other cast members are ready and waiting to get the call from the writer.

It's been four years since the end of the second series, but speaking on This Morning, the 53-year-old revealed the time could be about to come.

Probing Siobhan about the show, host Holly Willoughby asked: "We've been teased, Sally Wainwright [the writer] says there will be a third series, we're waiting for Ryan who's Catherine's grandson to grow up a bit because that's important for the storyline.

"How much longer have we got to wait? Do you even know, is anything on a heavy pencil?"

Being careful not to give too much away, Siobhan said: "I'm not sure, I don't know if we're going to do it again. We're just waiting for Sally to write it, fingers crossed.

"Rhys, who plays Ryan, sent me a little message at Christmas and he looks like a fully grown man now, so he is growing up."

When Phil and Holly pushed a little harder on whether it was 'time now', the actor said: "Yeah."

Writer Sally Wainwright has been postponing series 3 until the child actor who pays Ryan (pictured) is in his teens.

If you're one of those fans who has been longing for the show's return, you will know it's all part of the bigger picture.

Speaking about the break last year, Sally told The Radio Times: "Basically we're kind of waiting for the little boy to grow up, so he's more of a teenager than a child.

"That's always been the plan. We never intended to do it again straight away, so it kind of hopefully is going to work out nicely time-wise."

Siobhan says she is just waiting for the script.

But with no definite script in sight, it looks like we've still got a while yet to wait.

Fortunately for Siobhan, she has other projects to occupy her time at the moment, one of them being Netflix thriller The Stranger, in which she plays DS Johanna Griffin.

The series is based on the hugely successful novel of the same name by American author Harlan Coben and follows protagonist Adam Price on a life-changing journey during which he discovers that his life up until that point hasn't been what it seemed.

Adam, a father of two, discovers his wife Corinne has been hiding a huge secret from him that chucks everything he knows about her into doubt.

He's approached by a mystery woman in a bar who calls herself 'The Stranger'. She lets slip some shocking information about Corinne which begins to untangle a complex web of lies.
