There was a bit of cock-up during last night's Emmy's which saw Jason Bateman erroneously announced as the winner only for the awards to then apologise and reveal the real winner. Awkward.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards 2020 were held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and aired on US TV last night.

Announcing the winner of the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series the voice over read out Jason Bateman for his appearance in The Outsider.

However, on screen, viewers could see Ron Cephas Jones for his role in This Is Us declared as the winner.

The two different messages prompted many viewers to flock to Twitter to try and get to the bottom of who the real winner was - with one person writing: "Creative Arts Emmy technical glitch: Screen says Ron Cephas Jones wins for drama guest actor; voice over says Jason Bateman. Whoops."

The awards then took an ad break and upon returning a message appeared on screen that read: "Our apologies, an incorrect winner has been announced. We're fixing it now. Please don't go away."

Jones' name and image then appeared on screen again, while a tweet from the Television Academy also confirmed his win.

Speaking to The Wrap, a spokesperson from the awards said it had been an 'editing issue' adding: "They announced the correct winner and it was the correct slate, but the voice over was incorrect."

As you can imagine, many viewers compared it to the 2017 Oscars when La La Land was named as the Best Picture winner, only for it to turn out that the actual winner was Moonlight.

One Twitter user wrote: "Okay so at the Creative Arts #Emmys the guest actor in a drama was announced to be Jason Bateman but the card said Ron Cephas Jones won. Having Moonlight/La La Land flashbacks....'

While another added: "This La La Land/Moonlight moment on the #emmys. Just now yeeeesh."
