Jennifer Aniston gave a shout out to Adam Sandler as she accepted her award for Best Actress in a Series at the SAG Awards last night.

Aniston, scooped the gong for her performance in TV drama The Morning Show at the Screen Actors Guild Award in Los Angeles overnight, but she stood up for Sandler, who appeared in Uncut Gems, which has been snubbed by the other big awards shows.

Her first ever SAG, the 50-year-old reflected on her breakthrough into acting, with a nod to a restaurant commercial that she appeared in.

Jennifer said: "They were humble beginnings, but you have to start somewhere."

She went on to thank Reese Witherspoon, who co-starred in and produced The Morning Show, as well as head writer Kerry Ehrin, saying that she created 'layered and complicated and messy and ugly and just beautifully human characters'.

Before she left the stage, she gave her long-time friend Adam Sandler a shout-out for his role in Uncut Gems, saying: "Adam Sandler, your performance is extraordinary and your magic is real, buddy. I love you."

Although the film has been rated highly on IMDB, where it has 8 out of 10, and Rotten Tomatoes, where it has a score of 91 percent, the feature length film seems to have missed out on nominations and awards in the big ones. It didn't have a look in at the Golden Globes, after being reclassified as a drama from the comedy category, and didn't get any nominations at the Oscars either.

The 53-year-old actor had the perfect response though, posting his response to the Academy Awards on Twitter.

He wrote: "Bad news: Sandman gets no love from the Academy. Good news: Sandman can stop wearing suits. Congrats to all my friends who got nominated, especially Mama."

The synopsis for the film reads: "A charismatic jeweller makes a high-stakes bet that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime. In a precarious high-wire act, he must balance business, family and adversaries on all sides in pursuit of the ultimate win."

Uncut Gems was released at the end of 2019 in the US, and will be on Netflix from 31 January 2020 worldwide, except for in America.
