Jeremy Clarkson has said he almost had 'the biggest accident of his life' while filming a new episode of The Grand Tour. You can see a trailer for the episode here:

Clarkson was filming the upcoming Scottish special of the Amazon Prime Video show when he was involved in a terrifying incident with a caravan.

The 61-year-old said he was driving around a tight bend when his car's tow bar flew off causing the caravan he was pulling to overtake him and almost careen into the back of the car.

Thankfully, Clarkson managed to retain control of the car and wasn't injured in the incident.

Speaking to the Sun, he said: "There was a point, when it started to overtake me, that I thought, 'God I'm having the biggest accident of my life'.

"Then I thought, 'No, wait, I'm still in control'.

"And then, 'The caravan's come off', and the whole tow bar had detached. That really happened."

Clarkson, who has a bit of a rep for wrecking caravans, stressed that this time it really was just a bad accident. He added: "On that occasion, that was a pure, genuine, 100 percent accident."

But if he was expecting sympathy from his co-hosts then he was very badly mistaken.

James May added: "For half a second I thought the whole rig had gone off the edge

"I thought, 'We are finally shot of Jeremy, with his beloved caravan'."

Clarkson went on to say his pal and co-host was laughing so hard he thought his 'lungs were going to come out'.

The caravan in question.

While fellow co-host Richard Hammond just seemed to be quite pleased that the incident happened.

He told the news outlet: "That's what people want to see, us fail. But we're doubly lucky because when we work together, stuff goes wrong.

"So there were two moments in the latest show where Jeremy's caravan simply came undone.

"If we'd done that as a stunt, planned that, it would have been a day of filming. We would have had stunt coordinators who have been very expensive, and it wouldn't have been as good."

The Grand Tour Presents... Lochdown lands on Amazon Prime Video on 30 July.
