After almost a 20 year wait, the fourth film in The Matrix franchise is set to be in cinemas sometime in 2021.
But Keanu Reeves - who will be in the movie alongside original co-star Carrie-Anne Moss - has said that the only reason he agreed to be in the film is because of the 'beautiful script' that was written by Lana Wachowski.
In an interview with Empire magazine, the pair were talking about what it took for them to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity in the dystopian world of the movies, and the 55-year-old actor said that, for him, it boiled down to just one thing.

"Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me," Reeves said. "That's the only reason to do it."
Created and written by Lana and Lily Wachowski, The Matrix movies are one of the most successful and critically acclaimed film franchises in history, grossing more than $1 billion in total across all three platforms.
While details about the forthcoming film are tightly under wraps, for a long time it seemed like there wouldn't actually be a fourth installment.

"I never thought that it would happen," Carrie-Anne Moss told Empire.
"It was never on my radar at all. When it was brought to me in the way that it was brought to me, with incredible depth and all of the integrity and artistry that you could imagine, I was like, 'This is a gift'. It was just very exciting."
Reeves was equally full of praise, especially for Lana. Not only did he say that her script was the sole factor in deciding to do the movie, but that getting to work together once more is a real joy.

"To work with her again is just amazing," Reeves said about Lana. "It's
been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things
to say, and that we can take some nourishment from."
While shooting of the movie did start in San Francisco, because of the coronavirus pandemic, production had to be expanded by eight weeks. It should still be coming out in 2021, though now perhaps not in May as originally planned.
