Line Of Duty Viewers Left Sweating After Incredible Scenes In Tonight's Episode

Martin Compston wasn't wrong when he said it was one of the best ever

Line of Duty fans were blown away by this week's episode.

The fourth episode resulted in a huge shoot out, when DCI Arnott was transporting prisoner Jimmy Lakewell to a safe location.

The OCG (Organised Crime Group) ambush them as Jimmy Lakewell is taken from prison - obviously the result of a leak to the OCG from someone. Tense doesn't cover it, and Line of Duty fans were left absolutely reeling from all the drama:

Earlier on in tonight's episode, viewers were hit with the bombshell that Ted Hastings was being sacked. Having led AC-12 for its entire time, the commanding officer of Anti Corruption Unit 12 was forced to retire, and fans didn't take the bombshell lightly:

We knew we were in for a treat with the episode when Martin Compston teased Line of Duty fans that it was 'one of the best' - like anyone needed another reason to watch it.

Sharing a shot of himself in character as Detective Inspector Steve Arnott, Compston wrote on Saturday (10 April):

It's not an easy show to pick up, as anyone who watches it will be well aware of, but Gogglebox's Jenny really committed to it. This week the show shared a close-up image of Jenny's Line of Duty notebook and fans are absolutely delighted.

Jenny Newby, who sits alongside best pal Lee Riley on the hit Channel 4 show, had viewers intrigued after she whipped out her Line of Duty notepad when the police drama came back to our screens last month.

In the close-up shot we can see Jenny's very handy acronym guide, so she doesn't confuse her ARUs with her ARVs, as well as a page of notes she took during episode three.

Among her musings is the fact that she reckons it's 'defo not Boyle' who killed Gail Vella as well as a reference to 'bent coppers' - well would it even be a Line of Duty notepad if it didn't include Ted Hasting's catchphrase?

And the cast recently hinted there may be more to come.

When they were asked which other fictional police unit they would like to be a part of, Vicky McClure - who plays DC Kate Fleming - told LADbible: "I don't want to go to prison in my own life but I'm quite curious about just, you know, prison, being a prison guard - that would be good."

Adrian Dunbar - aka Superintendent Ted Hastings - chimed in: "The spin off, the spin off," Martin Compston, who plays DS Steve Arnott, suggested the TV show Cell Block H.
