Line of Duty returned to our screens last night (Sunday 11 April) - and with it came a fresh batch of fan theories.

One of the most interesting is the hunch that Steve Arnott spoke to Jimmy Lakewell before he was murdered.

Did Jimmy spill the beans on the sly?

In the explosive fourth episode of season six, Jimmy - the incarcerated lawyer who previously featured in season four - was killed, shortly after being interviewed by AC-12.

In said interview, Jimmy refused to speak out against gang members, and thus seemingly took his secrets with him to the grave.

However, some fans think there could be yet another twist in the tale, deciphering from a knowing look with Steve that he may have passed on some intel on the sly/in the van prior to the interview.

Could he be a bent copper?

One viewer speculated: "I think Jimmy Lakewell did unofficially give Steve info in the van as they had a 'look' in the interview when he wanted to make it clear that he hadn't."

Another said: "Lakewell definitely said something to Steve. The way they nodded to each other in the interview room says it all #LineOfDuty."

A third added: "Did anyone catch that odd exchange between #SteveArnott and #jimmylaverty 'that's right isn't it Steve I defo didn't say anything right' with Steve giving the nod. Odd."

Another fan feared the look might mean that Steve is a bent copper.

They said: "I have an awful feeling that Steve may be dodgy. That nod he gave Lakewell in the interview when he refused to talk, then someone has told the OCG he did talk."

It's gonna be a long wait now for fans to see if Steve does have anything up his sleeve in next week's instalment.

Martin Compston (who plays DI Arnott) said that episode four was 'one of the best' episodes ever written, and it certainly didn't disappoint viewers... It's just the waiting on a cliff edge for the following week which fans are less keen on.

Roll on episode five.
