Line of Duty star Martin Compston has revealed that the sixth season of the show will have wrapped filming by Christmas.

Filming of the sixth season was put on hold back in March due to the coronavirus outbreak, but Martin has now said they've got a 'definite' date they're hoping to get back to it.

Talking on the One Show via a video link, he said: "Well, I'm in dire need of a haircut and I've also got a few lockdown pounds I need to lose before we get back.

"We've got a definite date that we're working towards but there's no point announcing it because the situation's so fluid, and it can change daily, so hopefully we can get it done before Christmas."

He went on to talk about how shooting post-lockdown would be 'completely different' as production companies introduce new guidelines to ensure everyone is working safely.

"I think there will be changes," he said.

"I mean there's going to massive changes off camera just because of the protocols and the social distancing, how many people can be on set, no congregating, people off-camera wearing masks.

"It's going to be a completely different feel."

Compston also promised the new episodes are going to be pretty bloody good, adding: "In terms of the changes...we really wouldn't want to compromise the scripts, the scripts are so good, and people are so loyal to the show, there would be no point coming back if we're going to compromise quality."

Before teasing a 'big, big question at the end of episode four' - well, that sounds exciting, doesn't it?

Speaking back in May, the show's creator Jed Mercurio seemed less than hopeful about the possibility of restarting.

He said: "Until wider society has the public health infrastructure of test, trace and isolate in place it's going to be very hard for anyone."

However, with lockdown restrictions now dramatically reduced across the UK - and a number of TV shows already resuming filming - it seems like fans might not have to wait too much longer for filming to finish and post production to begin.

And then hopefully we can finally find out who H is. Maybe.
