WARNING: LINE OF DUTY SPOILERS

Line of Duty fans are convinced that DCS Patricia Carmichael tapped out 'H' in Morse Code during last night's episode.

In one scene, DCS Carmichael along with DS Arnott and Supt Ted Hastings were interrogating Jo Davidson when Carmichael hammered her pen on the desk four times.

Most people might not think much of something like that, but LoD fans are another breed and picked up on the potential clue right away - leading them to thinking she could be the fourth 'H'.

Taking to social media, one fan asked: "Watch as Carmichael taps her pen on the desk 4 times. Anyone know what that means in morse code....?"

Another responded with a search result showing that it means 'H' to which people lost their minds.

One wrote: "Carmichael is in with it. She is protecting H. She deliberately leading the questions away..."

Another added: "I think she is one of the officers involved with the Steve Lawrence case. Bishop never got to finish showing who the other officer/s were involved as Carmichael took over AC 12 last week.

"This week bishop shredded the pic of Osborne for Carmichael who gave bishop a glaring stare. Osborne or Carmichael is the last h also every time Osborne was mentioned by Hastings or Steve she shut questioning down."

Another person commented: "I thought that but I reckon it's a red herring thrown in by Jed [Mercurio, Line of Duty creator]."

Disagreeing with the theory, one fan wrote: "I think she just likes tapping her pen to irritate the person interviewed."

People were convinced that Carmichael was trying to steer the conversation away from police corruption and at one stage, she shut down Hastings for trying to talk about the 'fourth man'.

In the scene, Carmichael said: "The interviewee has repeatedly said she doesn't know about any of this.

"It's a dead end. So let's focus on events surrounding the events of the killing of Ryan Pilkington."

She then turned her attention to Steve Arnott and told him: "DS Arnott. Let's chivvy things along shall we?"

Last night's episode was the penultimate episode of the sixth series. Next Sunday marks the grand finale on BBC One at 9pm.
